As the name reflects the Splitting Hatchet is used to split smaller chunks of wood and for the extra chopping needed to tackle wood pieces too large to fit into a stove. Even though mostly used outdoors, you can use this hatchet by the fireplace to make splint wood. The shape of the head, with a back especially designed to split; its weight, and a relatively long handle make this hatchet more suitable for splitting than the Wetterlings Buddy and Wilderness Hatchets. The hatchet blade is hand-forged Swedish carbon specially alloyed steel with an HRC57 edge hardness, and the handle is American hickory. Hatchet comes with a vegetable tanned, locally produced, leather sheath and a 20-year warranty. Approximately 2 lbs., 14 oz. total weight; 7-1/3" overall length with a 2-1/3" face. Made in Sweden.
