Our Patternmaker's Vise is based on a design used by professional woodworkers and patternmakers for over a century. The specifications and molds were developed by an American company. The castings and machining are done in Taiwan. The vise is a massive 55 pounds of cast iron and steel to insure that no matter its position it will remain solid and rigid. The 13-7/8˝ x 5-1/8˝ main jaws pivot up to 5° to accommodate tapered pieces. The auxiliary jaw pivots up to 30° at right angles to the main jaws, to accept compound tapers. Once your work is clamped tight, you can turn it upside down, and access at least three sides without reclamping. In fact, you can rotate the clamped jaws through 360° at the vertical position or anywhere in between. Two parallel dogs on each jaw allow you to clamp odd shapes, rounds and arcs. The vise requires two 3˝ bolts and three wood screws to mount on your work bench. Clamping capacity is 12˝.
