Mr. Teijiro Ohkubo is a third generation chisel maker, who began learning the art of making chisels at age 14. His grandfather, Teijiro Ohkubo, was a renowned blacksmith who won many awards for his artistry, including the Prime Minister Gold Medal in 1923 and the Presidential Prize in 1942. Over a 100 years ago, Teijiro Ohkubo started the Daitei brand, which Teiichiro proudly continues to make. Teijjiro is also recognized as a Koshiki Tanren, a chisel maker in the traditional manner – by hand without any power tools. He personally forges each blade from the finest steel laminated to wrought iron for strength, tempering each blade to HRC65 and finishing it with a traditional Japanese Red Oak or Ebony handle. Each one of Teiichiro’s chisels is imbued with the spirit of three generations of Ohkubo Master Blacksmiths.
