Our Hiroki Octagonal Chisel Hammers (Gennoh) are hand forged by Mr. Hiroki Aida from high quality soft steel (Kusumi) with hard steel forge welded on to both ends of the hammer head. He uses only Hizukuri forging techniques and is one of the last blacksmiths using this technique which was handed down to him by the famous master blacksmith of hammers, Kozaburo. After heat treatment, the hammer heads are soft in the middle and hard on the ends. This gives better impact and imparts more of the force to the chisel. One end is finished flat and the other has a slight convex shape. The handles are best quality Japanese white oak. These hammers are highly sought after by master woodworkers. Weight of head is 12 ounces (375 grams) and overall weight is 18 ounces. Overall length is 14½:".
