Our Scribing Gouges are used in Sukui or Tea House joinery. They are used to make a scribe (perpendicular) cut for fitting curved joinery, such as bamboo and other natural materials. The carver will also find these gouges to be exceedingly useful for trimming and paring cuts. Unlike Western in cannel gouges, these have a flat bevel and are sharpened like a chisel, greatly reducing the time required to maintain a sharp edge. The blades are hand-forged from "white" steel and wrought iron. The handles are double hooped Japanese Red Oak. Each gouge is well sharpened. Overall length is 9", & blade length is 2«".
