The unique shape allows the hand to hold the handle directly above the blade for delicate cutting work. Mr. Tsuguo Abe is the last of a long line of blacksmiths specializing in hatchets and axes since before the 1830's. He hand forges each axe with a combination of high carbon and low carbon steels. His forging technique creates a long lasting edge that is easy to resharpen. The axe head weighs 32.5 ounces and overall weight is 3.85 lbs. The length of the cutting edge is 5½˝ and handle length is 28˝. Edge cover is included.
