They are well balanced, the hands low and close to the work to economically deliver the power of the upper arms, shoulders and back. The 60° blade angle is ideally suited for hard and highly figured woods, producing incredibly smooth surfaces. Since the blade is sharpened with a 30° bevel, it can be reversed in the body to make a 90° scraper plane able to handle any particularly nasty grain.
