Its unique shape allows this axe to cut deep into the trunk and reach deeply buried roots. Mr. Tsuguo Abe is the last of a long line of blacksmiths specializing in hatchets and axes since before the 1830's. He hand forges each axe with a combination of high carbon and low carbon steels. His forging technique creates a long lasting edge that is easy to resharpen. The axe weighs in at 4frac34; lbs. The length of the cutting edge is 3½˝ and overal length of head is 8˝.
