When boring into solid wood, the bit should be started in the vertical position and after a "dish" is formed and the bit begins to "bite", the angle of boring can be changed by tilting the brace and bit out of vertical to the desired angle. In this way a hole can be bored at any angle. Our Spoon Bits are hand forged from high quality carbon steel, carefully heat treated and then hand ground to a fine edge. Spoon Bits may be easily honed by using a slip stone on the inside of the cutting edge. The range of sizes should accommodate the majority "spokes" regularly used. The bit diameter is 1/2" and overall length is 4-1/2".
