The heads are milled from solid brass. The unique feature of these hammers is their Tan Oak handles which are configured for either the right or left handed user. The configuration allows the hammer head to naturally fall in a perpendicular fashion without twisting the wrist. Glen-Drake ToolWorks hammers are made with asymmetrically shaped handles to provide a controlled grip, while the heads are rotated 30° to encourage use with a relaxed wrist. This combination of relaxation and control increases sensitivity that is difficult to experience with an ordinary hammer. The handles are mounted to heads at their center of gravity to produce a balanced feel. Handles that get shorter as the head size increases eliminate the tendency to choke-up on the handle during use. This means that regardless of the head size, the handle pivots in the palm of the hand, allowing the hammer to become an extension of the arm. Glen-Drake hammer handles are made from California tanoak. The handles are riven to reduce grain runout, air and kiln dried then hand shaped and finished. The handles are wedged and pinned to the heads.
