It is hand forged and shaped, and the teeth are hand cut by Matsugoro Fukazawa of Tokyo. Mr. Fukazawa's grand father started manufacturing files and rasps over 100 years ago. He began his apprenticeship with his grandfather in 1956 and is now considered the premier file maker by master Japanese craftsmen of various sorts. He makes files and rasps for medical use as well as for musical instrument makers, sword smiths and bamboo artisans. Many jewelers find him indispensable for their hand work. A wood handle is included with each file.
