Ten Sho Plane cutting inserts are made from alloyed high speed steel for increased durability and are tempered to Rockwell c64ø The insert is accurately aligned by a grooved slot in the support blade. The chip breaker is aligned to the support blade by two tabs. In addition a screw tightly binds the chip breaker to the support blade. This exceedingly rigid assembly is then placed into the plane body in the same manner as our other Japanese planes.

Japanese Replaceable Blade Planes - These planes offer the woodworker the superb qualities of Japanese style planes, without the learning curve associated with resharpening laminated blades. The cutting portion of the blade is a hardened insert which can be replaced if dull or resharpened a number of times by honing the back side on a fine grit stone and then stropping or buffing the bevel. The blades are designed in such a way as to make a very rigid structure which eliminates flexing and chatter.
