Forstner bits were invented over 100 years ago, specifically for the woodworking industry. Continual improvements over the years have perfected the design. Since their cut is guided by the outer rim, it is exceedingly easy to drill overlapping holes, as well angled and pocket holes. They are the preferred bit for drilling thin veneers, knots and end grain. Sizes from 1/4˝ to 2-1/8˝ have a 3/8˝ shank, and sizes 2-1/4˝ and larger have a 1/2˝ shank. Overall length is 3-1/2˝ All sets are shipped in a sturdy, finger jointed wooden case. This 16 piece set covers sizes 1/4˝ to 2-1/8˝ by 1/8˝ increments and comes in a heavy duty plastic case.
