Our Hiroki Oval Face Chisel Hammers (Gennoh) are hand forged by Mr. Hiroki Aida from high quality steel in the old fashioned method called Mei-ko handed down to him by Kozaburo the famous master blacksmith of hammers. These hammer heads are not heat treated in the usual manner, but obtain their ultimate hardness following forging and quenching, which makes them soft in the interior and hard on the surface. Very few blacksmiths are able to make tools in this manner. Hiroki chisel hammers are noted for their balance and ability to impart more force from the user to the chisel. For this reason Hiroki Oval Face hammers are eagearly sought after by master woodworkers. One end of the hammer head is finished flat and the other has a slight convex shape. The handles are best quality Japanese white oak.  Weight of head is 16 ounces (450 grams) and overall weight is 23 ounces. Overall length is 14-1/4".
