Our Matsumura Firmer Chisels, are used for carpentry and heavy cabinet and boat work. They are longer and made to a heavier pattern than are the Bench Chisels. Mr. Matsumura uses the Hokkaido Pattern to give our Firmer Chisels a fine balance and provide the user with excellent control. Each blade is hand-forged from the best quality “white” steel laminated to wrought iron. The blades are tempered to Rockwell c64 and are finished in the traditional fashion. Sizes ¼˝ to 1˝ have one hollow on the back, while sizes 1¼˝ to 2˝ have two hollows. The handles are best quality Akagashi (Japanese Red Oak), double hooped to prevent splitting. Each Firmer Chisel is fully sharpened and comes with instructions for maintaining a razor edge. Blade width is ½˝, overall length is 12˝ and the blade length is 3½˝.
